On behalf of the Chesapeake Chapter and the National Capital Chapter of ASSE, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the contributions and participation in this year’s golf tournament. Collectively we made nearly $4,000 in proceeds that will be used to endow scholarship funds for students in the fields of safety, health and the environment.
Over 55 golfers braved the threatening weather conditions for a fun-filled afternoon of friendly competition at Patuxent Greens. Although no one won the $10,000 hole-in-one contest, there were lots of laughter and anxious moments as other prizes were awarded. More than half of the participants also won valuable prizes at the buffet dinner awards ceremony. Special thanks go out to our sponsors. See you next year.

We are very pleased to announce that the 2009 Federal Environmental Symposia (FES) will again be held at both East and West venues. This year's theme for the Symposia – Progress and Transition – has two goals that focus on agencies' sustainability accomplishments of the past year and on additional sustainability initiatives and directions that should be evident in the first few months of the new Administration.
The Symposia drew over 750 participants in 2008, who overwhelmingly gave thumbs up to both events for content, speaker quality, facilities, and opportunities to meet and interact with colleagues and leaders from other agencies. The Symposia are fast becoming the professional events of choice for the Federal sustainability community that deals with the myriad of elements and requirements in Executive Order 13423, among others.
We encourage all prospective attendees to save the dates on their calendars and to monitor this FedCenter page regularly for the registration link that will be posted sometime in the mid-March timeframe.
